Description	:	Charles N. Eggert, 89, of Kearney died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Charles was born in St. Joseph, Mo., on June 17, 1921, the third child of Montana homesteaders Charlie and Mabel Eggert. With his widowed mother, his family moved to Aurora to be surrounded by nurturing family members. Eggert, 89, of Kearney died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Charles was born in St. Joseph, Mo., on June 17, 1921, the third child of Montana homesteaders Charlie and Mabel Eggert. With his widowed mother, his family moved to Aurora to be surrounded by nurturing family members. At Aurora High School he was a true scholar athlete, lettering in football, basketball, track and debate. Charles attended the University of Nebraska on a Regents scholarship. His education was interrupted by World War II when he became a civilian instructor pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1944, he began a flying career for United Airlines flying the puddle jumper DC-3 and retired in 1981 captaining the globe-spanning 747. While flying full time, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University. He went on to complete his law degree there in 1974. New Hampshire was his family's home for many years. He served as a selectman and a member of the planning board in the village of Francestown. In 2002, he retired from his law practice and returned to his boyhood state where it gave him great comfort to find the wholesome values of his childhood had remained much the same. He enjoyed designing and building his own homes and was a master carpenter. He had a passion for knowledge and didn't mind sharing it. He will be missed by those who enjoyed sharing "the world according to Charles." His favorite times were spent surrounded by his family, friends and neighbors. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maxine; and brother, Herman. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Aldridge, Linda Thomson, Charles and Larry Eggert; grandchildren, Susan and Kim Lord and Kristen and David Thomson; and four great-grandchildren, T.J. and Parker Wodskow and Abigail and Margaret Thomson. He is also survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Eggert. Published in the Kearney Hub on 9/17/2010
