Description	:	Charles R. Robinson, 89, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, and also one hour prior to services. It was Charlie's wishes to be cremated and his remains be laid to rest at Saratoga Cemetery in Saratoga, Iowa. Charlie was born on April 21, 1920, in Upton, Wyo., the son of Henry and Winnie (Sigler) Robinson. When he was 2 years old they moved back to Iowa, where they lived near Saratoga and Lime Springs. In 1939 his parents purchased a farm south of LeRoy. Upon the death of his father in 1940, Charlie assumed the responsibility for operating the farm until it was sold in 1948. He then worked at Lee Teach's Service Station and later for Jack Fritcher — a local farmer and dear friend of Charlie's. In 1953 he began working as a mechanic for Kratz Motors, specializing in working on Oliver diesel tractors. He was well-known throughout the area for his expertise. Later during this time working for Kratz's, he specialized in overhauling automatic transmissions for cars. He retired from Kratz's in 1982. At that time an old diesel train engine had been purchased for display in the park. Charlie spent many, many hours helping to bring that diesel engine back to life. In the early 1960s he became a lifetime member of Antique Acres in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He owned several of the antique tractors stored on site. During their annual show, Charlie worked with the Steam Engines. He loved to give kids rides on the old steamers. For many years, Charlie spent the winter months in Missouri, where he was also a member of an antique tractor club in Booneville. There are numerous stories floating around Iowa and beyond about Charlie and his love for antique tractors. He will be missed by friends and family. In December of 1993 he was united in marriage to Blanche Smith. They lived on her farm near LeRoy. Blanche later suffered a stroke and went to the Riceville Rest Home in 1998, later passing in 2008. He is survived by one brother, Henry (Junior) of Rochester; and two sisters, Hazle of Rochester and Perry Blaser of Cresco, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; his parents; and his brother, Leonard.
