Bond, well known Chariton citizen, succumbed at his home on south Eighth street on Monday afternoon, June 8, 1931, about one o'clock. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. E. W. Curtis, of Des Moines, formerly of Chariton, were held at the M. E. church in Norwood on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Norwood cemetery. Charles R. Bond, son of George T. and Margaret Bond, was born at Monkton, Baltimore county, Maryland, on March 25th, 1854, and at the time of his death his age was 77 years, 3 months and 14 days. He moved with his parents to Clover Hill, Pennsylvania when about five years of age and lived there eight years. He came to Iowa in the year 1867 and to Lucas county in 1872 where he has since resided. He came from a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death but one sister, Mrs. W. W. Clore, of Norwood. He was united in marriage to Celestine Bennett on Feb. 17, 1877. To this union seven children were born, five girls and two boys, all of whom were with him at his death: Mrs. J. N. Harvey, Norwood; Mrs. T. W. Nelson, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. C. C. Taylor, Mrs. J. R. Ashby, Mrs. T. N. Sellers and Arthur, all of Des Moines, and Glen, of Chariton. Charles R. Bond was one of the county's most highly esteemed residents. He possessed a pleasant, genial disposition and had a kind word for all. He lived an upright life and was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy and unfortunate. The family has lost a kind and indulgent husband and father and the community has lost a good citizen.
