Read More	Husband of Margaret Johnson THE CHARITON DEMOCRAT Chariton, Iowa Wednesday, February 20, 1884 One sudden death after another has been occurring in quick succession in this county, until now we are scarcely shocked when one comes. On last Thursday evening, Mr. George Bond, of Ottercreek township, fell dead in his own dooryard. He had been working in his smith shop until about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, when he went to the house in apparently the very best health. Our informant tells us he had not been heard to make any complaint whatever. About 5 o'clock he started out to the stable, as the family supposed, to do some chores. His son, passing a few moments afterward, discovered him lying on the ground near the door, dead. A physician was summoned at once, but to no purpose. The cause of his death is attributed to apoplexy. He was a member of Chariton Lodge No. 64 I.O.O.F. and a man who was highly esteemed in the neighborhood. His funeral was held on Saturday, conducted by Rev. Fawcett. The remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. THE CHARITON DEMOCRAT Chariton, Iowa Wednesday, March 5, 1884 IN MEMORIAM At a regular meeting of Chariton Lodge #64 I.O.O.F. held on Feb. 26th, the committee, consisting of G. B. Routt, W. K. Larimer and G. W. Blake, appointed to prepare suitable resolutions on the death of Geo. T. Bond, reported the following, which are adopted: Whereas, our worthy and esteemed brother, Geo. T. Bond, was suddenly removed from our midst by death on the 14th day of February, 1884, therefore be it resolved by this Lodge that by the death of brother Geo. T. Bond, we have lost a valuable and exemplary member, his family, a kind husband and father and the community in which he lived, a worthy, upright citizen, of sterling integrity, most highly esteemed by those who knew him best.
