Carey was born near Kalamazoo, Michigan, July 15, 1860, and died at his late home in Ladora, February 12, 1923, aged 62 years, 6 months and 28 days. Carey was born near Kalamazoo, Michigan, July 15, 1860, and died at his late home in Ladora, February 12, 1923, aged 62 years, 6 months and 28 days. Mr. Carey came to Iowa with his parents when about 5 years of age. He lived in Benton county for a number of years, later coming to reside in Victor. For the past 25 years he has lived in Ladora. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Libbie E. Smith of Ladora. To this union were born four sons, Frank and Harry, who preceded their father in death, and Claude and Ora who reside in Ladora. For a time he lived in Martland, Nebraska, and while there joined the United Brethren Church, about 30 years ago on profession of faith. In 1906 he united with the M. E. Church of Ladora by letter. He has also been a member of the Modern Woodman lodge for about 30 years. For several years he farmed, later doing general work. But Mr. Carey's illness extended over a period of years, his last illness being for about 4 years, causing him to give up work at that time. He has in all these years been a great sufferer, but always bearing it with a confidence that it was four some good purpose. His devoted and faithful wife has always been at this side to comfort and minister to him many needs. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, two sons, one sister, Mrs. Caroline hart of Victor, one brother, Adolphus Carey of Ladora, two grand children, nieces and nephews, besides a host of neighbors and friends. He was a good husband and a father, a kind and obliging neighbor and a good citizen. Services were held at the Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. I.C. Thom, officiating. Music was rendered by the choir. The pall bearers were: Floyd Beemer, John Baitinger, H. H. York, G. W. Stoner, W. S. Keil and O. E. Davis, all members of the Modern Woodman of America. The floral tributes were beautiful.
