Read More	Charles Therien Lyon, 83, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April, 20, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Charles was born on December 19, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Frank and Willa (Therien) Lyon of Correctionville, Iowa. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, with military rites by McNiff American Legion Post #389 of Anthon. Services were held on Saturday, April 23, 2005, 10:30 am. at the United Methodist Church in Anthon, Iowa. Charlie was a lifelong beekeeper in the business his father began in the 1930's near Anthon, and was very well known and respected throughout the industry. He was in partnership for many years with his brother, Archie, who kept the business growing during the war years when Charlie was away, serving his country. In the early 1950's they expanded the business into Gregory County, South Dakota, an area that Charlie came to love as much as his home in Iowa. Charlie served in the Air Force during World War II in Europe where he survived a plane crash in Northern Italy. He was taken prisoner and served as a POW until he was liberated in April of 1945. He was well known for retelling his remarkable war story to students in classrooms throughout the area. Charlie had a gift of entertaining those around him with an endless collection of both humorous and interesting anecdotes for almost any subject. Charlie met the love of his life, his future wife, Mary Jo Hoskins, when she moved to Anthon to teach school in the fall of 1945. They were married on June 6, 1947, at her parent's home in Rockport, Missouri. To this union two children were born. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo, a daughter, Kathy and her husband Bill Renneker of Brookings, South Dakota; a son, Jim and his wife Donette Lyon of Herrick, South Dakota; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Frank Lyon of Kansas City, Missouri and Archie Lyon of LeMars, Iowa; a sister, Annie and her husband Claire Wulff of Mineola, Texas, and the many friends he left behind. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elsie of Spokane, Washington; and a brother, Lee Lyon, of Springfield, Ohio.
