Description	:	Charles Thurston Finchem, eldest son of James T. and Helen Finchem was born Sept. 14, 1867 at Silver City, Mills County, Iowa and departed this life at his home near Waukee on Oct.10,1938 at the age of seventy-one years and twenty-six days. He grew to manhood in Mills County and after spending several years in Nebraska came to Des Moines in 1896. He grew to manhood in Mills County and after spending several years in Nebraska came to Des Moines in 1896. In 1898 he came to Boone township where he met Miss Mary Rosalie Mortimer to whom he was married on May 2nd, 1900. There came to bless this marriage three children, Paul of Detroit, Mich.; Helen and Merrill, now living at the parental home near Waukee. Besides his wife and children Mr. Finchem is survived by one brother and two sisters, Sam, of Emmerson; Mrs. Edna Johnson, of Winnifred, Mont., and Mrs. Edward Duprez of Mt. Clemens, Mich. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. There are four grandsons and one granddaughter. Having spent the thirty-eight years of their married life in and near this vicinity Mr. and Mrs. Finchem have acquired a large circle of appreciating friends who have shown a deep and sympathetic interest in them during the past months of stress and strain. These friends have proved themselves invaluable at a time when human sympathy counts for the most. Mr. Finchem was reared in the religious atmosphere of a Quaker home and in 1898 was converted in a revival meeting held at Ashawa, Iowa and united with the Methodist church at that time. All through his final illness, he has been sustained by a christian faith, so that he faced the coming realties with an unusual calm and courageous spirit. He was an honored member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Finchem was a man of industry and thrift, a pleasing companion, a lover of children, flowers and clean athletic sports.
