Description	:	Charles Turner Lang was born at rural Bloomfield, Iowa on November 27, 1867 to William Watson Lang and Elizabeth Emeline Cross Lang. He attended elementary school in rural Davis county, and one year at Lincoln college, Lincoln, Illinois. Read More	Charles Turner Lang was born at rural Bloomfield, Iowa on November 27, 1867 to William Watson Lang and Elizabeth Emeline Cross Lang. He attended elementary school in rural Davis county, and one year at Lincoln college, Lincoln, Illinois. In this era high schools were just getting started and a college was really similar to a present-day high school. He then attended Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant for three years and graduated with a degree in Education and Latin. Charles moved west and taught at Hooper, Nebraska for 2 or 3 years. He then moved to Fontanelle, Ne. to become principal at the school. It was here that he met his future bride, Anna Mae Clark. About a year later they were married on July 26, 1893 at the home of the bride at Alder Grove, Burt Co., Nebraska. They both taught at Oakdale, Ne. for 2 or 3 years. He being Superintendent of schools there. Since teachers salaries were very low, Charles thought it best to get into banking. He worked in banking at Creighton, Ne. for about 2 years. At this time Charles and Anna had their first son, Roscoe. Charles then founded the bank at Lynch, Ne. and Anna had their second son, Francis. Apparently banking did not prosper in Lynch and he sold out after about a year, returning to Craig, Ne. where he sold farm machinery in partnership with Charles Sackett. After 2 years in this business he moved on to Los Angeles, California where he obtained a job as a bookkeeper with the Los Angles Ice Co. At the time Los Angles was a growing community of 60,000. In 1904, Charles Father-in-Law, Hiram Clark, gave his eldest daughter Anna a farm of 160 acres near the Missouri river east of Tekamah, Ne. Charles and Anna then moved to Tekamah. Charles took one look at the farm and traded it for a 160 acre farm 1 mile west of Tekamah. The trade was thought to be a good deal as the land east of Tekamah eventually eroded away and fell into the Missouri river. In 1907 Charles built a new house on the farm. In 1909 tragedy befell the family as Charles and Annas eldest son Roscoe fell from the hay loft in the barn and fell among frightened horses that trampled him. He died of the injuries and was buried in the Tekamah cemetery at the age of 11. In March, 1910 the original homestead Clark farm at Alder Grove was available as Annas Uncle Harry Duke moved his family to a farm in South Dakota. Charles sold his farm west of Tekamah and bought Harry Dukes at Alder Grove. He and his remaining sons Francis and Richard farmed this land from 1910 to 1930. At that time his youngest son Richard married and took over the farm. In the late 1910s and early 1920s agriculture prospered and Charles bought two additional farms, the Lochhead land one mile east of the home farm and a 160 acre farm 3 miles north from the Whitney family. On the Lochhead land he built a new farmstead and new house. He and Anna moved into their new house on the corner of the farm in 1930 and lived there until his death on October 10, 1939. Anna continued to live there until her death in August, 1944.
