Bill was the son of McCoy and Thalyvia Lucille Buckingham Johnson and attended Kittitas Schools, graduating in 1948. Read More	OBIT: Charles W. "Bill" Johnson, born May 7, 1930 in Ellensburg, passed away June 27, 1996 at the Providence Medical Center in Yakima. Bill was the son of McCoy and Thalyvia Lucille Buckingham Johnson and attended Kittitas Schools, graduating in 1948. He served in the Army 1951-1953 and other than fifteen years on the road selling truck parts, he worked in Ellensburg, all of his adult life. He was a partner of Ellensburg Mechanical Contractors, an owner of Center State Contractors, and at the time of death worked for Perma Color Interiors. He was active in the Ellensburg Jaycees and served as state and national officers. For many years he was a member of Toastmasters, Kittitas County Fair Board, a past president of the Camp Illahee Board, Vice-President of Kittitas County Safety Council, a Cancer Crusade Director, County Heat Chairman, a member of the American Legion and an active member and Past President of Washington State JCI Senators, an international Honor organization. Bill had been a Life Member and Manager of the Moose Lodge #494, and Governor and was awarded a Mooseheart Fellowship. He also was a member of Kittitas Valley Early Iron Club. Bill loved people, camping, country living and for years enjoyed tuna and salmon fishing. He will be remembered by his many friends and family as a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, father and "Papa Bill." He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Sandra Hayes Johnson. He leaves daughters Judy Margaret (Fred Tohm) Johnson of Spokane, Jeri Marie (J. Mark) Wiesen, and Robin Kay (Robbe) Gilmour of Ellensburg, and son, Major Michale Jay (Riva) Johnson of West Point, N. Y. and nine grandchildren, Terin and Hailey Tohm; John Mark "Trey" and Charles Williams "Chas" Wiesen, Denali, Rachel and Ellis Johnson, and Grant and Crystal Gilmour. He is also survived by his mother, Lucille, twin sister, Betty Jean (Robert) Newman, brothers, Claude C. (Erma) Johnson, all of Ellensburg, Richard D. (Judy) Johnson of Wenatchee and sister Joan Jeannette Harris of Yakima and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, McCoy Johnson in 1977. Viewing for family and friends will be at the Steward and Williams Funeral Directors, 301 E. 3rd Avenue on Monday, July 1 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon. Remembrances are suggested to the Washington State Jaycee Foundation, 109 W. Mercer, Seattle, WA 98119 or Hospice of Kittitas County, 603 S. Chestnut, Ellensburg. A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 840 Cowboy Lane (Vantage Highway), Ellensburg on Tuesday, July 2 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the Moose Home, 110 E. 3rd.
