"CHUCK" HENLEY" LOUDONVILLE: Charles W. "Chuck" Henley, 93, of Loudonville died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday morning, February 18, 2016. He was born July 27, 1922 in Akron and was the son of the late William and Monnah (Nyhart) Henley. Chuck was a 1940 graduate of Loudonville High School and he honorably served in the US Navy aboard the LST 688 from 1942 through 1946. His greatest memory from the war was reuniting with his brother, Lawrence, on the island of Okinawa. His brothers in arms were always in his heart and he loved his LST 688 Navy reunions, faithfully attending all 19 and was honored to host the 2001 reunion in Columbus, Ohio. On June 10, 1950 Chuck married the love of his life, Martha Allerding, whom he met through his lifelong friend and Martha's brother, John Allerding. They established their homestead on a small farm outside of Loudonville and instilled in their children the values of working hard and being proud of their accomplishments. In addition to his service in the Navy, Chuck worked at Westinghouse Electric, the Ohio Grease Company and was the Canteen Manager for the American Legion Post 257 for 13 years. In 1990 he served on the American Legion Building Committee, representing the WWII veterans. He was also a life member of Loudonville Eagles, VFW Post 8586, 40et8 Voiture 800, Ashland Elks and the American Legion Post 257, serving as Chaplain for military funerals for over 20 years. Chuck was a Hanover Township Trustee serving 20 years. He proudly served as a blood donor for the American Red Cross and was recognized for reaching the 11 gallon milestone. Chuck was a faithful member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Loudonville, serving as an usher for 35 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, spending several terms as president. Chuck enjoyed gardening, mushroom and rabbit hunting, feeding the birds, and attending birthday and holiday get togethers. He took great pride in his John Deere tractor, his well-groomed yard, and maintaining the family ball diamond this past summer. Throughout his medical problems, he never complained and often boasted he had the best care and nurse a person could ever ask for. While his wife and retired nurse, Martha, felt she had the best patient a nurse could ever ask for. Chuck was a loving husband to Martha for 65 years and is also survived by his eight children and their spouses: Renata (Tom) Lunt, Gregory (Sue) Henley, Susie (Dan) Piskur, Mona (John) McMullen, Chuck (Rita) Henley, Mary (Bruce) Davis, Bob "Buzz" (Karen) Henley, and Larry (Debbie) Henley, all from the Loudonville area; 31 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Edgar (Ginny) Henley of St. Petersburg, Florida and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Paul Henley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church, Loudonville with Father Vincent Hawk officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion and VFW will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Family and friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, Loudonville where a Prayer Service will begin at 6 p.m. A luncheon will follow the graveside services on Monday at the Loudonville American Legion Post 257. Memorial contributions may be given to the Building Fund of St. Peter Catholic Church, 220 East Butler Street, Loudonville, Ohio, 44842.
