Dumont. ----------------------- Charles Waldron Dumont was born in Marion, Iowa, July 1st, 1856, and died in St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 7th, 1908, of acute hemorrhage of the stomach. He was educated in the public schools of his native city and after some years of service in his father's store, in 1887 entered into the furniture and undertaking business with his father, the late Judge A. B. Dumont of this city, forming the partnership of A.B. & C.W. Dumont. After the death of his father in March of this year he has conducted the business alone. In 1895 he graduate from the Chicago College of Embalming, receiving his diploma therefrom, and in his chosen profession he had no superior. In 1896 he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, in whose faith he had grown up from childhood, and of whose communion his bereaved wife and now fatherless children are devoted members. He was married Sept. 1st, 1881, to Miss Rebecca Reichard by the Rev. N. Rathbun, a pioneer minister and Mason of precious memory. To this union was born seven children, two dying in infancy, five of whom are living: Maud A., May, A.B., Fred C. and Dorothy H. He also leaves an aged mother, whose comfort and stay he has been, and two brothers, J.W. Dumont, of Davenport, and J.E. Dumont, of Anamosa. He was made a Mason in 1888, exalted in 1891, and knighted in 1892. For several years past he has been in failing health and while seeking needed relief was stricken with an acute hemorrhage of the stomach of sudden and fatal termination. He was a man of pronounced integrity and highest honor. In his business he was active and zealous, but always genial and courteous. In his Masonic relations he was ever cordial and generous and of kindest and most tender sympathy; while in his home he was a most thoughtful, considerate and affectionate son, husband and father. His love for his home and family was supreme and boundless, and as pure and loyal as the homage and preferment he received from its every member. His was truly a home where mutual love reigned supreme and without a rival. His memory will be to his friends and fraternal companions a cherished heritage while to his sorely-stricken family it will ever be the most lasting and priceless treasure, love enshrines and cherishes in human hearts. The above sketch of the life of the deceased was read by Rev. S.R. Beatty, pastor of the M.E. Church, at the funeral, which was held yesterday afternoon at the family residence. In addition to remarks and prayers by Rev. Beatty, ritualistic Masonic services were conducted by Acting Worshipful Master John M. Thompson at the house and the grave. A large number of Masons attended in a body.
