Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. ----- Published in The Rochester Sentinel Charles Wayne Redinger April 2, 1925 - May 13, 2009 Charles Wayne REDINGER, 84, of 121 W. 12th St., Rochester, passed away at 12:03 p.m. Wednesday at Life Care Center of Rochester. Wayne was born in Rochester on April 2, 1925, the son of the late Charles Albert and Florence Matthews Redinger. He and the former Pauline Swears were married June 14, 1947, in Wabash; she survives. Wayne was a proud member of the Rochester High School Class of 1944. He enjoyed playing basketball for the revered coach Clyde Lyle. Wayne hit the hardwoods wearing number six and was a member of the 1943 RHS team that went to the state as part of the elite final four. During World War II, Wayne served our country with the U.S. Army in the European theatre. He was honored with two Bronze Stars among other awards prior to his honorable discharge. On June 14, 2007, Wayne and his wife Pauline celebrated 60 years of marriage. Their union produced two sons, Charles and Eldon. The family tree continued to grow later with the additions of four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. As a songwriter, Wayne preferred the country-western style of music. He wrote music with lyrics usually about family or special friends. He once wrote a song for his Irish wife, Pauline, and another for his first born grandchild. He enjoyed relaxing while listening to the Statler Brothers or Marty Robbins. Wayne is remembered as your friendly meatcutter for Kroger of Rochester, serving his customers for 26 years. He also cut meat at the IGA Store in Argos for five years. His memberships included the First Christian Church, LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post No. 36, the Manitou VFW Post No. 1343 and the IOOF Lodge No. 47, all of Rochester. He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two sons, Charles A. Redinger and wife Peggy, Greenfield, and Eldon W. Redinger and wife Linda, Winamac; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hilda McGowen and husband Merle, Rochester, and Gladys Thomas, Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jamie Redinger; four sisters, Eva Dean, Burnice, Annabelle, and Zonna; and a brother Lloyd. A celebration of the life of Charles Wayne Redinger will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with honored friend Mark Rodriguez officiating. Friends may visit with his family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to his services. The LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post No. 36 and the Manitou VFW Post No. 1343 will accord a graveside military honors service. Wayne will rest in eternal peace at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
