Description	:	Civil War Veteran. On 1 October 1862, Charles, his brother Thomas, and cousin Daniel Allen, were mustered at Montezuma, Poweshiek County, Iowa, and served with Co. This obituary has been condensed and only essential content has been included. Charles Wesley Allen, son of Rev. Charles and Mrs. Celia Allen, was born in Logansport, Ind., March 12, 1841, and died at the home of his son, Walter Allen, near Beaver City, Nebr., March 14, 1932, at the age of 91 years and 2 days. When a small boy he moved, with his parents, to Iowa, and spent most of his boyhood years in that state. There he was married to Elizabeth D. Bryant, August 10, 1862. To them were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: Mrs. Clara L. Green and William S. Allen of Wichita, Kans.; Charles Lewis Allen of Livingston, Calif.; Mrs. Alice M. Johnson of Ringgold, Nebr.; George E. Allen of Montezuma, N. Y.; and Walter M. Allen of Beaver City. Mrs. Allen preceded her husband to the better land, January 14, 1921, and is buried at Wichita, Kans. Besides the children mentioned, there are twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Almost immediately after his marriage, Mr. Allen enlisted in Company B, 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and served three years, until honorably discharged at the close of the war. In 1885 Mr. Allen moved with his family to Kansas and lived there for twenty years, when he came to Nebraska, but in 1917 he returned to Kansas and lived there until 1929, since which time he has made his home with his son, Walter. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Beaver City. The body was taken to Norton, from whence it was conveyed by train to Wichita, Kans., for burial beside his late wife.
