Read More	Charlie Laws Daily Journal - Jul 26, 2009 - 08:07:05 CDT FARMINGTON — Charles "Charlie" Wesley Laws passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 15 days. He was born June 9, 1924, at St. Francois County, son of the late David J. and Gertrude Yeargain Laws. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Bonnie Kaye Hill, two brothers, Claude and David Jr., and two sisters, Ruby Feezor and Mildred Hopkins. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. He served his nation in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a fireman first class on the U.S.S. Wasatch and the U.S.S. O'Bannon. Upon discharge from the military after the war, he attended the Rankin Technical School in St. Louis and relocated from St. Louis to Farmington in 1953. Before his retirement, he was a co-owner of Farm Equipment Sales, Inc. from 1953 to 1987 and was also a co-owner of BLB Rentals, Inc. He was always proud of the fact that he was able to purchase his family's homestead near Farmington in 1964. He was a member of the I.O.O.F., Elks Lodge 1765, VFW, American Legion, a charter member of the Mine La Motte Club, GMC Motor Home Association, FMCA, and a charter member of Gateway Motor Cruisers. In his spare time, Charlie visited all 50 states and loved traveling in his motor home to warm winter destinations. He served as a regional president for FMCA. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Cleva Ina Jean Laws, daughter, Peggy J. (Mrs. Richard T.) Korane of Farmington, son, Kirby W. Laws and wife Melissa of Farmington, a son, Kerry L. Laws and wife Patricia of Oklahoma City, and a daughter, Kelle Kyle Laws of St. Louis. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Angela Laws, Kellen Laws and wife Megan, and Gabriel Laws, two brothers, Howard Laws and wife Lee of Blue Springs, and Joel Laws of Ft. Worth, TX, and two sisters, Joyce Simms and Nellie Kollmeyer, both of Farmington. Numerous nieces, nephews, and his many friends in Florida and elsewhere also survive. Friends may call Sunday, July 26, at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A VFW service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday followed by an Elks Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Monday. Funeral services will follow at the Cozean Chapel at 10 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Seal officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Disabled American Veterans or the Animal Rescue Foundation.
