Belair, Md., Aug. 3.—Charles Whitaker, a well-to-do-farmer and influential citizen of Harford county, was shot yesterday afternoon by William F. Dowling and died last night. Dowling surrendered to the authorities. Dowling’s farm was recently purchased by Whitaker at a trustees sale, but Dowling has continued to reside upon it.
