Newburn was born at Logansport, Indiana, August 19, 1875, and passed away after a lingering illness at his home in Wilber on Friday morning, May 20, 1938, having attained the age of 62 years, 9 months and 1 day. Newburn was born at Logansport, Indiana, August 19, 1875, and passed away after a lingering illness at his home in Wilber on Friday morning, May 20, 1938, having attained the age of 62 years, 9 months and 1 day. He with his parents, came to Saline County when he was 4 years old and settled on a farm south of Pleasant Hill. He has been a resident of Saline County most all his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Allen of Washington, Kansas in 1903. This union was blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter. One son, Glenn, preceded him in death in 1906. Those who survive to mourn his loss are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Newburn and one daughter, Mrs. Velma Ashbaugh of Wilber, three sons, Harry of Wilber, Orva of Portland, OR, and Harold of Chicago; nine grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Alta Keep and Mrs. Clara McIlnay of Crete; two brothers, Harley of Crete and Frank of Lincoln, and host of sincere relatives and friends. His father and mother and three sisters preceded him in death several years ago. Mr. Newburn was a painter by trade and was well known as a good and careful workman. He worked at his trade until about 2 years ago, his health became so poor, he had to give up his work. Funeral services were held at the Shinmerda Funeral Home, Monday, May 23, 1938, at 2 o'clock. Elder Samuel Broilar officiated. Milo Chaloupka sang, accompanied by Mrs. Spirk. The pallbearers were Arthur Turner, Henry Hoffman, Albert Nerud, Ton Henderson, Roy Henderson and Ralph Tigart.
