Description	:	Charles "Chick" Neeley was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Cañon City, Colo., the eldest son of Charles H. Neeley and Anna Mae (Flesher) Neeley. His parents and three older sisters moved with Chick to Mancos when he was an infant. He passed away Feb. 5, 1998. Read More	Charles "Chick" Neeley was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Cañon City, Colo., the eldest son of Charles H. Neeley and Anna Mae (Flesher) Neeley. His parents and three older sisters moved with Chick to Mancos when he was an infant. He passed away Feb. 5, 1998. Chick graduated from Mancos High School and immediately went to work for a highway construction company. Later, he enrolled in the C.C.C. camp at Mesa Verde. A few years later he became a partner in the Mallett Motor Company with his brother-in-law, Elbert Mallett, and his brother, Raymond Neeley. Chick was a very good mechanic. He was also good at fixing almost everything. He later started a logging company which employed many men providing logs for local sawmills. He and Helen, together with other shareholders built and operated the Mesa Manor Motel, which is now the Mesa Verde Motel. He was always interested in mining. He bought or made a lot of equipment to help with this venture and was successful in finding quite a few nuggets and was excited about each find. Besides mining, his hobbies included snowmobiling and electronics. Chick was community-minded and used his equipment to help renovate Boyle Park. He served on the town council for several years and was Mayor of Mancos. He was a volunteer fireman for 20 years and recently he and Helen donated a mountain cabin with acreage that was raffled off so the Mancos Hose Company #1 could purchase a much-needed second ambulance. Chick was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Hazel Kincannon, Helen Caylor. He was survived by a third sister, Ruth Brown. His wife, Helen, survived him by two years, three months. Other survivors are two sisters, Geneva Cox of Mancos and Winifred Mallett of Rangely; two brothers, Raymond Neeley of Farmington and Jim Neeley of Cortez; one sister-in-law, Betty Alexander; four brothers-in-law, Noland Alexander, Kenneth Brown, Elbert Mallett and Robert Beers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
