Description	:	Helen Beers Neeley passed away at her home in Mancos on Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the age of 87. Helen was born in Aztec, N.M., on Aug. 28, 1912, the daughter of Clarence Roy Beers and Hattie (Lucas) Beers. Helen was confined to a wheelchair since the age of nine when polio crippled her body. She was a very organized and accomplished woman, able to knit, cook, and sew with great skill. In 1976, Helen was chosen as radio station KVFC's Woman of the Year. Helen was born in Aztec, N.M., on Aug. 28, 1912, the daughter of Clarence Roy Beers and Hattie (Lucas) Beers. Helen was confined to a wheelchair since the age of nine when polio crippled her body. She was a very organized and accomplished woman, able to knit, cook, and sew with great skill. In 1976, Helen was chosen as radio station KVFC's Woman of the Year. She taught piano lessons in her home for 40 years, retiring in 1976. Helen taught, at some times, 35 students per week. Helen was a member of the Mancos United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of Chapter BD of P.E.O. In 1940, Helen wed Charles William "Chick" Neeley in Aztec, N.M. After nearly 58 years of marriage, Chick passed away on Feb. 5, 1998. No services were held at the time of his death with the plan to hold joint services at the time of Helen's passing. Helen is survived by her sister, Betty Alexander of Mancos, and her brother, Robert Beers of Durango; and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Mancos United Methodist Church beginning at 2 p.m. for both Helen and Charles. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Helen Neeley with the Mancos United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being made through the Ertel Funeral Home
