TEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS Besides his father, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gladys Shockey, Leavenworth; by ten brothers and sisters, Cpl. Lewis Shockey, with the armed forces in Germany, James Harvey Shockey, Atchison; Mrs. Lorotta Hopkins, Frankie Eugene, Betty Jane, Bessie Lucille Rosemary, Delores, Marguerite Ann and Paul Francis, all of Leavenworth, and by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jenkins, Atchison. Shockey, who was killed in action on Leyte March 8, 1945, will arrive here by train Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. He was a son of Franklin Shockey, route 1, and Mrs. Gladys Shockey, Leavenworth. Funeral service will be Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Stanton and Stanton chapel. The Rev. Richard Baker, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, will officiate. Military services will be conducted at the grave in Oak Hill cemetery. Pfc. Shockey, who was born July 10, 1923, joined the Atchison National Guard unit, Company A, two weeks before the organization left here Jan. 6, 1941, when he was 17 years old. Later he was transferred to another unit. He landed at New Caledonia with the first unit of American troops and took part in many major battles as a member of the infantry. Before entering the service he attended the Atchison High school, and later worked at the Velvet Creamery, Wilson & Company, and the Crawford Poultry Co. In addition to his parents he is survived by four brothers, Louie Shockey, Frank Shockey, and James Shockey, all of Atchison, and Paul Shockey, Leavenworth; six sisters, Mrs. Walter Dunster, Atchison, Mrs. Richard Simpson, Delores Shockey, Rose Mary Shockey and Marguerite Ann Shockey, all of Leavenworth, and Mrs. Curtis Nelson of Swearinger, Tex., and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jenkins of Atchison.
