SHOCKEY, 78, former Missouri Pacific crossing watchman and Central Branch shopman died at 9:30 o'clock last night it the Atchison hospital He had been a patient at the hospital since Sept 23. His home was on route 1 on the Leavenworth road. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stanton chapel, the Rev. Philip S. Harris, rector of Trinity Episcopal church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Shockey was born Nov. 24, 1877, at Lancaster. He was reared in Atchison and was employed by the Missouri Pacific until his eyesight failed. For the past 15 years or more he had only partial sight. Since 1939 he had lived on a tract of land south of Atchison. Previously his home was at 1414 Main street. He was a communicant of the Episcopal church. Surviving are his wife, Gladys, of Leavenworth; six daughters, Mrs. Walter Dunster, Atchison, Mrs. Richard Simpson, Mrs. William Simpson and Miss Rosemary Shockey, all of Leavenworth, Mrs. Curtis Nelson, Lovington, N.M., and Mrs. James Baker, Osage, Wyo.; four sons, James and Louis Shockey, both of Atchison, Jack Shockey, Leavenworth, and Paul Shockey, who is serving in the navy at San Diego; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Slusser, Alhambra, Calif.; his stepmother, Mrs. Norman Yaple, Falls City, and 12 grandchildren. A son, Pfc. Charles William Shockey, was killed in action on Leyte, March 8, 1945, while serving with the Army. In 1949 his body was returned here for burial. Franklin never appeared in the 1880 US Census yet his mother Augusta Schutnicht Shockey appears with James and George Shockey and Augusta's parents in Lancaster. Augusta's parents were very poor and may not have provided her a monument even though she passed around the same time as George Shockey (who has a monument).
