Sterling died at the McCready Memorial Hospital, in this city at an early hour Monday morning. He was taken to the hospital Friday suffering with acute appendicitis. He underwent an operation Saturday morning from which he rallied and his condition seemed favorable. Complications, however, later set in and his life rapidly ebbed away. He was secretary and treasurer of the C.D. Briddell Company, of this city and was a man of exceptional ability and business judgement. He was a graduate of the Crisfield High School and later took a correspondence course in business. He was 27 years of age and was a devout Christian, having been a member of Asbury M.E. Church for several years and was to have become a member of the official board at the coming conference year. Had he lived he would have probably been the youngest member this church ever had on its official board. He was active in all kinds of church work and was secretary of the Sunday School and the Brotherhood. Charlie Sterling was a man liked by every one. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, he made friends and kept them. No death in this community has caused more regret than his. A man with a bright future has gone to join the silent majority beyond the grave in the morning of life, and while it grieves his relatives and friends, it is gratifying to them to know that he lived in such a way that he had no fear of death and sooner or later it will be their privilege to join him in the heavenly world where partings and heart aches will be no more. The deceased is survived by his widow, who, before their marriage about six years ago, was Miss Maude Ward, and his mother, Mrs. Julius Johnson. Funeral services were held at Asbury Church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. T.J. Sard. Interment was in Asbury Cemetery.
