Read More	Charles Wilson McKAY ..Orphaned while young, was raised by Quinton Searight near Ryan, IA Charles McKay Passed Away Suddenly Sunday Charles Wilson McKay, a son of Robert and Mary McKay was born in Newton township, Buchanan County, November 30, 1866, and passed away November 2, 1941, lacking 28 days of being 75 years old. He was left an orphan when a small boy and was raised in the home of Quinton Searight, near Ryan, Iowa. He was the youngest of a family of nine children - a half-brother, James, of Ireland; and four half-sisters, Tillie McCaw, Sarah Mattier, Ester McFerron, and Agnes Taylor, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two brothers, John Gordon, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Robert W. McKay, of Winthrop, and a sister, Margaret Colt, of Alden, Iowa. These have all preceded him in death except his brother Robert. He was united in marriage to Tillie McDowell, of Newton township, on March 20, 1895 and moved to a farm in Middlefield township where he has since resided. To this union were born seven children - Mrs. Mable Childs, of Masonville; Chester, of Ryan, and Kenneth, at home; and Mary, Frank, John and Ida, who passed away in infancy. He served as township trustee and a member of the school board for a number of years. Charlie was a devoted husband and father to his family. He was well and favorably known in the community as a good citizen, kind friend and neighbor, always ready to assist in the time of trouble. He enjoyed nothing more than to have his friends drop in and spend the time reminiscing over their past experiences. He was baptized and brought up in the Methodist church and contributed freely to the support of the Unity church in Middlefield and later to the Methodist church in Winthrop. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, children, three grandchildren Ila Mae Childs, Beverly and Carol McKay, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and 2:30 at the Silver Creek church, with the Rev. Wm. J. Macaulay officiating. Burial was made in the Silver Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were -- Herman J. Preston, Edgar McCloud, Thomas C. Powell, Herbert Dubois, Hugh Fernald, and William Sasse. The people of this community extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
