Description	:	Charlotte Elizabeth Goddard was born at Georgia, Vermont, on the fourth day of July, 1831. She was one of a family of nine children, five brothers and three sisters, of whom she was the last surviving member. She was married to Edwin G. Stiles at Freeport, Illinois, April 13, 1854, and soon thereafter they returned east and resided for several years in New York state. Read More	Charlotte Elizabeth Goddard was born at Georgia, Vermont, on the fourth day of July, 1831. She was one of a family of nine children, five brothers and three sisters, of whom she was the last surviving member. She was married to Edwin G. Stiles at Freeport, Illinois, April 13, 1854, and soon thereafter they returned east and resided for several years in New York state. Of this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, of whom only one son survives her, W.L. Stiles of the firm of Stiles & McColl of this city, with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband in 1900. After several years of residence in New York state, the family returned to Illinois for some years, then in 1879 they moved to Fairmont, Nebraska, where they were prominently identified with the interests of that community until the year of 1900, when her husband passed to his rest, and where he was buried. And thither, her body will be borne, that they who for so many years walked life's pathway together, may side by side await the Resurrection of the dead. She was converted in early childhood and became identified with the Congregational church, but after her marriage, she joined her husband in the fellowship of the Methodist Episcopal church and continued in that fellowship to the end. She was a faithful worker in the church during the active years of her life and was a member of the church choir. She was particularly fond of the hymns of the church, and when she no longer had voice to sing them, it was her delight to read them. She loved her Bible, and was an almost constant reader of it. If you could look into it, you would soon discover where she had read, for she freely marked her Bible in reading. The end of this long and useful life came peacefully on August 20, 1913, without pain and without struggle, falling asleep, as a child, tired with its play. She attained the unusual age of eighty-two years, one month and fifteen days, and until the last four or five weeks had been very active for one of her years. By those who knew her, she will not soon be forgotten--Creston (Iowa) Exchange. The funeral was held from Grace Methodist church on Friday afternoon at four o'clock; Rev. C.B. Lenfest of University Place, a former pastor of the Fairmont church was in charge, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. Lotan R. DeWolf. A larger number of friends of earlier years gathered to pay tribute to the life of a woman greatly loved. Interment was made in Fairmont Cemetery. Relatives and friends present from out of town were: W.L. Stiles and wife and daughter, Mrs. Eva Shields, who accompanied the body from Creston; Dr. J.N. Plumb and family, Mrs. Farley and Mrs. Cora Cockeram of York, Nebraska. Fillmore Weekly Chronicle (Fairmont) August 29th, 1913 page 3. -------------------------------- Married Edwin G.
