Description	:	Charlotte Jewel (Olson) Smith passed on Wednesday November 7, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Arlington, SD after her battle with cancer. Charlotte was born on January 15, 1937 to John & Ida Teressa (Jensen) Olson in Lake Preston, SD. She was baptized at Lake Preston Lutheran Church and confirmed at the North Preston Lutheran Church. Charlotte was born on January 15, 1937 to John & Ida Teressa (Jensen) Olson in Lake Preston, SD. She was baptized at Lake Preston Lutheran Church and confirmed at the North Preston Lutheran Church. She attended school at Lake Preston before marrying Donald Henry Smith on June 5, 1954. This union was blessed with 11 children, which Charlotte spent most of her time raising this wonderful family. The family was raised on a farm near Erwin, SD until 1988 when they moved to Lake Preston. It was at this time when Charlotte returned to school and earned her high school diploma in 1990. Charlotte and Don enjoyed retirement life traveling to Hart Ranch, California and Alaska. She kept busy with sewing, crocheting and embroidering dish towels. Other hobbies of hers were playing cards, dice games, baking and canning. She is survived by her children, Ed (Sandy) Smith of Lake Norden, SD: Kathy (Jeff) Speer of Grass Valley, CA: Joyce (Ron) Fried of Kodiak, AK: Nancy (John) Anderson of Lake Norden, SD: Donna Phelps of Lake Preston, SD: Velva (Harvey) Fitzgerald of Hermosa, SD: Delwin (Mary) Smith of Lake Preston, SD: Charlene (Dennis) Stein of Clear Lake, SD: Darwin's wife Lynne Smith of Huron; and Ronald (Michele) Smith of Brookings, SD. Her family includes 39 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Charlotte is also survived by 2 sisters Ruby Lowe of Madison, SD and Murriel Warner of Grass Valley, CA. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald, her parents, all of her brothers and two sisters, her daughter Mary, her son Darwin and one granddaughter Llora Fitzgerald. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be 2:00 pm on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD with Pastors Wanda McNeill and Ronald Smith officiating, burial will be at the North Preston Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church and preceding services on Friday
