Hamill, wife of Sheriff Hamill, died at her home Sunday at 1:30 p.m., after a long and serious illness of over six weeks. She was surrounded by the entire family and her father and two brothers and several intimate friends of the family. She remained perfectly conscious up to within a few moments of her death. She was aware of the fatal condition she was in and summoned each member of the family to her bedside and when they were all present she asked to see poor Jimmy Laughlin, her nephew, who was so badly injured a few days previously in the railroad wreck at Dow City, and when the family circle was completed she told them she was going to leave them and hoped to meet them all in Heaven. She said she was prepared to meet her Savior and asked them all to live good lives and requested her husband to keep the family together. Her last words were "Where is mother and Pat?" Being informed they were present she said she was contented if they were with her for she always wanted them with her. She then became unconcious and quietly passed away seemingly without pain and as gently as if laying down to peaceful dreams. Mrs. Charlotte A. Hamill, oldest daughter of Robert and Margaret Laughlin, was born in county Kerry, Ireland, in 1850, and came to the United States with her parents when but two years old. They first settled at Philadelphia, Pa., and from there they moved to Dixon, Illinois, where she was married to P.J. Hamill twenty years ago. She and her husband moved to Roselle in 1876 and have ever since lived in Carroll county. Six children were born to this family: Robert, Joseph, Margaret, Bertha, Fannie, and Harry. The youngest being three years old and the oldest nineteen. Mrs. Hamill was a member of the Christian motherhood and of The Sacred Heart association of St. Joseph's church, and the arrangements for the funeral will be under the direction of the members of these societies. The funeral procession will leave the house at 1:30 tomorrow and will arrive at St. Joseph's church at 2 p.m. The funeral services will be performed by the Rev. Father O'Connor. After the ceremonies are over at the church the remains will be taken to the cemetery where the last sad rites will be performed. The death of Mrs. Hamill is a sad one indeed and the fond husband and the bereaved children have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. Mrs. Hamill was a woman of many virtues, a loving wife and an affectionate mother, and the loss the family will sustain by this sad bereavement cannot be measured in words, but the tender love and tokens of kindness will in a measure allay their grief and help them to place their trust in Him "Who moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform." No deeper affliction than this is ever given for mortal man to bear and as we stand in the silent presence of the dead and think of the many years she has devoted to raising a family and the adverse circumstances she has had to contend with and to realize that just as her burdens of life were being lightened and her dream about to be realized, it fills our hearts with a solemn sadness that we are but feebly able to express.
