Burial will be made in the St Joseph Cemetery. Patrick James Hamill, son of Patrick and Mary Ann Hamill, was born in Dixon, Lee county, Illinois, Sept 8, 1850 and spent his early youth there. He was married in Dixon in 1872 to Miss Charlotte Loughlin and to this union six children were born: Mrs Will Vollmer of Bridgewater, S.D. died in 1913; and living are Robert J Hamill of Carroll; Joseph Hamill of Great Falls, Mont; Mrs P.M. Juttlestad of Portland Ore; Mrs E.L. Hall of Carroll; Harry Hamill of Vancouver, Wash. Mr and Mrs Hamill with two children came west in March 1876 and settled on a farm in Roselle township and four years later in 1880 they removed to Carroll, where Mr Hamill spent the remainder of his life. He was elected sheriff of Carroll county in 1892 and on June fifth of that year Mrs Hamill died. In 1893 Mr Hamill married Miss Clara Stammeyer, who with the following children survive him: Charles Hamill of Missouri Valley; Mrs Kenneth Heslop of Des Moines; twin sons, Norbert Hamill and Norman Hamill of Sioux City; Mrs Elmer Allison of Carroll; and Miss Esther Hamill and Warren Hamill at home. He also leaves 19 grandchildren. Mr Hamill was in the real estate and insurance business until about four years ago when he retired on account of his age and health. His ailment was diabetes and a month ago he was taken to St Anthony hospital and on Jan 15 had his right leg amputated. He died Monday morning at 5 o'clock in the hospital. He was the last of his family. He was a devoted father and husband and a good neighbor. He was among the pioneer members of St Josephs church and was also a member of the Holy name society.
