Charlotte Leone Garrison, eldest daughter of John and Mabel Garrison, was born near Ohiowa, Neb., August 24, 1922. She passed away Wednesday morning, May 26, 1946 at St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lincoln, Neb., at the age of 23 years 9 months and 5 days. Charlotte Leone Garrison, eldest daughter of John and Mabel Garrison, was born near Ohiowa, Neb., August 24, 1922. She passed away Wednesday morning, May 26, 1946 at St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lincoln, Neb., at the age of 23 years 9 months and 5 days. Death was the result of an automobile accident in Lincoln a few days before. Charlotte graduated from Ohiowa high school in 1940 as valedictorian of her class. She also obtained a state regents scholarship. The following fall she entered the University of Nebraska for one term, then took up teaching for a year. In 1942 she re-entered the University of Nebraska for another year after which she took a position at the Lincoln Army Airfield, where she remained until the field closed. In January, 1946, she took up work as clerk for the Lincoln Army Recruiting Office, where she worked until her death. She became a member of the Methodist Church when still quite young and remained a friend of the church. She served as Sunday school pianist several years. She was of a kind and loving disposition with a sterling character that won her many friends. She leaves to mourn her passing, her parents; brother, William Weldon; sister, Shirley and her grandmother, Mrs. Lou Horne and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held Friday, May 31, at the Methodist church where friends, including many from neighboring and more distant points, filled the place to overflowing. Many stood. Over 250 were in the procession of mourners passing the bier. They came in understanding sympathy for the family. There was little they could do but stand by with words of comfort and what their hands might do to comfort these friends in this grievous loss. The attendance in a measure gave knowledge others were sharing their loss, which truly brought comfort as they reconciled themselves through faith and hope of eternal life in giving their daughter to God's care. Rev. M. O. McCamley officiated. His sermon, "God is Calling." was very fitting, awaking feelings of reverence and leaving the thought that the world is God's and all that dwell therein. The Father calls his children Home in the dark of night for protection, shelter, care and love. He had called Charlotte, saying, "Daughter, come Home," speaking not as parents in temporal authority, but his command is eternal life, a home where she is in God's protection. Prior to his message, he read the 23rd Psalm, a poem, "Crossing the Bar," and other writings of poets befitting this occasion. Just before the sermon, he sang beautifully "Sunrise and Sunset," a favorite hymn of Charlotte. A mixed quartet, W. A. Philippi, Mrs. F. S. Zuver of Western, Mrs. Seth Heston and Henry Molthan, rendered "Living for Jesus," Mrs. L. L. Goodman at the piano directed the music. A cousin of Mrs. Garrison, James Barbur, Geneva florist, and his wife, placed the flowers in striking exhibit. There was a deluge of sprays, designs and flowers in baskets. More flowers came by mail after the funeral, a dozen red roses coming directly from one of Charlotte's friends as a comfort to Mr. and Mrs. Garrison. Men of the Lincoln Army Recruiting Office, where Charlotte served as secretary, were pallbearers. Lt. Glenn D. Trump, T Sgt. Joseph T. West, S. Sgt. James L. O'Hara and Sgt. Edwin G. Driscoll. These, as well as other men of the recruiting office, did everything possible as she lay unconscious at St. Elizabeth Hospital, including giving blood transfusions. They had warm words of praise for all her thoughtfulness through service. Charlotte's roommate, Miss Luella Etmund of Lincoln, was at the funeral rites, also mother and sister and the sister's daughter. The funeral cortage was more than a mile long. The grave bedecked with flowers closes the chapter of Charlotte's life. She lived with us only a short while, but her beautiful life will live in the memory of many. Miss Garrison lay in state at a Lincoln mortuary until Thursday, when the body was brought to the W. A. Philippi mortuary and taken to her home the morning of the funeral.
