Description	:	HOUSTON, Texas-Charlotte Margaret Sponseller Smith, 95, passed away after a short illness Nov. 19, 2008, in Houston, Texas. A graveside service was held today at Columbiana Cemetery. The Rev. Robert C. Joy officiated. Charlotte was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Toledo, Ohio, to Allen Barr Hutchison and Lottie Didion Hutchison. The family moved to Salem, Ohio, in 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William J. Sponseller of Columbiana and Salem. She then married Donald R. Read More	HOUSTON, Texas-Charlotte Margaret Sponseller Smith, 95, passed away after a short illness Nov. 19, 2008, in Houston, Texas. A graveside service was held today at Columbiana Cemetery. The Rev. Robert C. Joy officiated. Charlotte was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Toledo, Ohio, to Allen Barr Hutchison and Lottie Didion Hutchison. The family moved to Salem, Ohio, in 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William J. Sponseller of Columbiana and Salem. She then married Donald R. Smith of Salem, and they moved to Lakeland, Fla., where he died May 15, 2001. Mrs. Smith moved from Lakeland to Houston in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Elizabeth Wilms of Salem, and her brother, Ronald Allen Hutchison of Canton, Ohio; and by her granddaughter, Robin Ann Adorno of Austin, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Vonda Lee Adorno, her grandson, Justin T. Adorno, and her granddaughter, Noel Asia Adorno, all of Austin. And by her son, William R. Sponseller; granddaughters, Doris Lee Sponseller and Caterina Nieuwsma; and by great-grandsons, Mason and Landon Nieuwsma, all of Houston. Also by her sister, Jeannette Rhea Hutchison Whyte of La Jolla, Calif. Charlotte was a member of the First Friends Church in Salem and of the Elsie Matti Missionary Society. Over the years she was active in church work, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and in ongoing visiting ministry to the sick and shut-ins. She was a life member and an officer in the Salem Elks Auxiliary, past president of the Salem Book Club, secretary for six years for the Salem Senior Citizens Club, a Red Cross volunteer, Brownie Scout leader, member and a treasurer during 15 years with the Women's Auxiliary of the Salem hospitals. She also worked for the JanKay Store. Charlotte enjoyed travels around the U.S., but she particularly loved the months she and William spent every year at their island in northern Ontario, Canada.
