Read More	Charlotte Myra Garber Hemford - The community of Hemford and surrounding areas were saddened to learn of the passing of Charlotte Myra Garber at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, on Wednesday evening, May 1, 1985. She had been a patient there since Monday evening, April 29 and had undergone emergency surgery from which she failed to recover. Although not in the best of health for the past few years, her death was quite unexpected and came as a shock to her family, close relatives and friends. In June 1981 she suffered a heart attack and had heart surgery the following November. She recovered from that, but later had a stroke which left her a semi-invalid since November 1982. She had been at her own home, cared for by her husband Aubrey and several housekeepers. Charlotte was born in Hemford, June 19, 1917, the only daughter of the late Walter and Daisy (Mailman) Silver. She attended Provincial Normal College in Truro, graduating in 1936. Following graduation, she taught school in Watford, New Canada, Midville Branch, West Clifford, Nineveh, and Hemford during the next 10 years. Her entire life, except for her college and teaching years, was spent in Hemford, living in the house where she was born. She was a member of the Hemford United Church, and attended service regularly as long as her health permitted. She served as treasurer of the church for many years. She also taught Sunday School for many years and directed the annual Christmas Concert for the Sunday School. She also was a faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society, and was a worker for the Canadian Bible Society during its fund raising campaigns. Also she collected for the Cancer Society during its campaigns. For several years she served as the local correspondent for the Bridgewater Bulletin. She had a host of friends who will miss her very deeply. Her illness did not keep her from enjoying visits from family and friends. In 1944 she married Aubrey Garber by whom she is survived. She is also survived by two daughters Gertrude (Mrs. Ian Urquhart), Dartmouth; and Dr. Gayle Garber, wife of Dr. Paul Gillard of Kelligrews, Newfoundland; also two grandsons, Matthew and David Gillard in Kelligrews. She was predeceased by an infant brother Bruce in 1921, and by her parents in later years. The largely attended funeral service was held in the Union Church, Hemford, on Saturday afternoon, May 4, 1985, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Gary Patterson. Burial was in the Hemford Cemetery with Basil Wagner, Ross Bunnell, Ernest Colp, Royce Lohnes, Otis Hirtle and Milton Snyder serving as pallbearers. Rosemary Rafuse
