Read More	Aubrey Donald Garber Halifax Herald 10/6/2005 GARBER, Aubrey Donald - With sadness in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, Aubrey, 87, Hemford, Lunenburg Co., on October 4, 2005, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was born in West Clifford on March 1, 1918, the eldest son of James and Viola (Selig) Garber. He proudly served his country in the Second World War overseas with the Canadian Army with the occupation force in Holland. Shortly after his return, he started work with the Nova Scotia Power Commission, first as a meter reader and later as a linesman, retiring after 30 years of service. He spent his retirement years busy in his woodlot, Christmas tree lot and large vegetable garden. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in days gone by. He devoted his life to his family, friends and community. He was a faithful member of Hemford Emmanuel United Church, resigning as church treasurer in January 1997 after having served since 1946. He recently received his 50 year jewel from his long association with Hillcrest Masonic Lodge No. 93, New Germany. In November 1996, he was presented with a life membership from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany. He was one of the founding members of the Hemford Fire Department and served on the Hemford Cemetery Committee for many years, and was active in the community whenever there was a need. He is survived by daughters, Gertrude (Ian Urquhart), Dartmouth; Dr. Gayle Garber (Dr. Paul Gillard), Kelligrews, NL; grandsons, Matthew Gillard, Ottawa, Ont.; David Gillard, Kelligrews, NL; sisters, Margie Roulston, Elmsdale; Phyllis Mailman, Bridgewater; sister-in-law, Stella Garber, West Clifford; several nieces and nephews; and devoted friend and housekeeper, E. Marie Snyder. He was predeceased by wife, Charlotte (Silver); sisters, Sylvia Crouse, Ruby Hubley, and brother, Arthur. He was blessed with caring neighbours and good friends who were quick to help him, especially in the last two years. Those who knew him will remember him as a man of unfailing principles, sincerity and determination. He possessed a strong work ethic and showed a love of nature and animals. He lived and died with quiet strength and simplicity and we celebrate his 87 years of life. We give thanks for a life well and truly lived. Visitation for family and friends will be today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany, with a Masonic memorial service at 4 p.m. and Legion tribute service at 7 p.m. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday in Emmanuel United Church, Hemford, Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Private burial in Hemford Community Cemetery. Family flowers only. At Dad's request, donations may be made to Hemford Emmanuel United Church, Hemford Community Cemetery Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. May God hold him close.
