Linn: Chauncey Alvin Linn and Anna May Hester were born at Modale, Harrison County, Iowa in 1877. They were married January 23, 1898. Shortly after that, they went to Kansas near Arkansas City where Chauncey's parents lived. They returned to Blair, Nebraska in 1899. He was employed by the Beatty Construction Company in Blair in the construction of the Illinois Central Railroad in the vicinity of Woodbine, Iowa. The family again went back to Kansas in 1905. The children at that time consisted of Gerald, Leatha and Gretchen. They were going to farm a place owned by Grandpa Christian Harader (Grandma Linn's father) but Grandpa Harader sold the farm. He had offered the farm to Chauncey for $5,000, with no down payment, before he sold it to another party. Chauncey elected not to buy the farm. The family moved back to Blair, Nebraska, leaving Arkansas City on Friday, January 20, 1905. Chauncey then went to work for the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad as a bridge carpenter and in the water supply department. In 1906, he was promoted to Bridge Foreman. He held the position of Bridge Foreman and Pile Driver Foreman up until the time he retired from the railroad at the age of 65. The record indicates that his first employment with the railroad was January 16, 1900. He retired September 30, 1942. In 1906 the family moved to Fremont, Nebraska. Chauncey built five homes in Fremont. In 1927, Chauncey and his son Gerald bought a farm at the west edge of Arlington, Nebraska, eight miles east of Fremont, and improved the farm and moved several buildings on it. The land was originally known as Johnston Amusement Park and had several buildings on it. The buildings were dismantled and the usable lumber used in the construction of a house, barn and garage. After Chauncey retired from the railroad, he lived on the place for several years then rented the farm to his son-in-law Ernest Johnson. The Elkhorn River runs through part of the land and the railroad across the east part of the land. In 1944, the Elkhorn River flooded the farm doing considerable damage to the land and the house. His son-in-law and daughter, Leatha, moved off the farm and the farm was sold, as he did not want to go to the expense of making repairs. He said he was too old to do the work. He had moved back to Fremont when he rented the place to his son-in-law. He had two homes on Second Street in Fremont. He sold one of them and lived in the other. His wife passed away October 24, 1948. He stayed in the house living alone for several years. He then sold the home and lived with his children, moving from one to the other spending much of his time with Ray and his wife. Ray was in the Navy all through the Second World War and for some time after the war. When in Fremont, he spent most of his time with Margaret and Bernard Bennett, his daughter and son-in-law.
