Read More	Chester Arthur Baker 1960 Bridgewater Bulletin The death occurred at an early hour on Tuesday morning, June 21, of Chester Arthur Baker, prominent resident of Bridgewater. Mr. and Mrs. Baker and their granddaughter, Connie Crouse, had just returned the previous Thursday from a trip to visit his sister and brother in Regina. Mr. Baker was born in Chelsea on May 4th, 1892, son of the late John Allen Baker. He was for many years an employee of the Canadian National Railways, retiring on May 30th, 1958. After his retirement, he spent much time working in his garden, which was much admired for its beauty. A veteran of World War One, Mr. Baker went overseas with the 107th. Battalion from Winnipeg, and was decorated with the Military Medal. He was a member of Branch No. 24 of the Canadian Legion. He was also a valued member of Acacia Lodge A.F. and A.M.; LaHave Lodge No. 60, I.O.O.F., and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. All these organizations attended his funeral in a body. Mr. Baker was married twice. His first wife, the former Viola Burr, passed away in 1924. He is survived by his second wife,the former Dora Frank; a daughter, Yvonne (Mrs. Michael Crouse); two grandchildren, Connie and John Crouse; and sister, Ida (Mrs. Robert Miller), and a brother, Archie, both of Regina; two brothers, Oran and Hugh, Bridgewater; and a sister, Eva (Mrs. Jack Hudgins), of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County. The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday from the United Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Ronald Noble, the pastor. He was assisted by Dr. Frank H. Eaton, a very good friend of Mr. Baker. The choir of the church was in attendance, and under the direction of the organist, Mrs. Joseph Sorrette, sang the favourite hymns,"There is a Green Hill Far Away" and "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me." The male quartette sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The pall bearers were Fred Johnson, James Hirtle, Edward Doucette, Percy Moreash, George Bent, and Walter Bell. Interment was in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
