"Chester Merle Farley was born February 19, 1915, on a farm west of Churdan, Iowa, and departed this life on [Thursday] Nov. 6, 1952, at 10:45 a.m., of a sudden heart attack. His age was 37 years 8 months and 17 days. "When he was one year of age, he moved with his parents to North Dakota, where he spent his next four years. Moving back to this section of the country, he grew to manhood near Lanesboro, being educated in the country schools near his home, and attending high school in Lanesboro. "On Sept. 9, 1933 he was united in marriage to Doris Luke, formerly of Churdan, Iowa, at Glidden, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Barbara Ann, 18; Ramon Claire 17; and Marcia Lynn, 9. "For a number of years following his marriage he was a trucker living at Churdan, Lohrville, Glidden, St. Joseph, Mo., and Carroll, Iowa. Eleven years ago he purchased the farm where the family now resides. They have lived in the same community ever since. "He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Besides his widow and three children, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Farley of Jefferson, Iowa; one brother, Robert C. Farley of Little Rock, Calif., four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ramsay, Redondo Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Irene Ferguson of Lohrville, Iowa; Mrs. Rebecca Whitver of Scranton, Iowa, and Mrs. Mae Naffziger of Little Rock, Calif., six nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and host of friends. "He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in the year 1932 and became a member of the First Baptist Church in the same year. At the time of his death he was a member of the Church of Christ in Lake City, Iowa. "He was a loving husband, father, son and brother. We deeply regret his passing so soon and so quickly. He had attended the football game in Coon Rapids on Wednesday evening and although he had a slight heart attack then, he enjoyed the game and was jubilant when the boys including his son Ramon, won the conference with an undefeated record. "He took a keen delight in the activities of young people and often provided for their enjoyment as well as his own. He had friends wherever he went because in turn, he was the type of person who was friendly, companionable, interesting, sociable and kindly disposed to others. "He got along well with his neighbors and was a hard worker. He was constantly improving his farm, his dwelling and the farm buildings. He was able to help with the corn harvest -- the greatest he ever harvested. He took a keen delight in planning for things to be done around the house and farm. It seems as tho' he were not gone from us -- he is just away. "This was one of the largest attended funerals ever held in the First Presbyterian church. The floral tributes were numerous and gorgeous. "Music was provided by the church organist, Mrs. O.B. Moorhouse, and the singers were Mrs. Loyd Riedesel and Mr. Edwin T. Mogck, who sang `Hold Thou My Hand, Dear Lord', and `Beyond the Sunset.' "The Rev. C. Harrison Becker, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, had charge of the service and used as his sermon theme `The Open Gates of the City of God.' "Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at the Huffman Funeral home in Glidden followed by services at the First Presbyterian church in Glidden; burial in Churdan, Iowa. Chester Merle Farley was buried at Highland Township Cemetery in Block 6, Lot 41.
