He was born August 26, 1901, in Kingman County, Kan. On April 8, 1950 he married Mrs Dorothy Miller of Coldwater. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Coldwater, three daughters, Mrs Edna Green, Cache , Oklahoma, Mrs Elma Mitchell, Pineville, Mo, and Mrs Mary May Friend of the home, three sons, Willard and Rex of Alva, Okla, and John of Coldwater, one sister, Mrs Gladys Bowman, Coldwater, two brothers, Nobel of Salida, Colo, and Cecil of Coldwater, and two grandchildren. Obituary Western Star , Thursday, March 14, 1974 Chester Willard Friend, oldest son of Charles and Elma Bowen Friend, was born August 26, 1901, in Kingman county Kansas and passed away March 5, 1974, in the Comanche County Hospital after a lingering illness of five years and eight months at the age of 72 years, six months, seven days. Chester came to Woods county, Oklahoma, in 1905 with his parents and settled in the Coy community where he remained a rancher until July 2, 1968, when he entered the hospital with Parkinson's disease. He resided at Pioneer Lodge from August 27, 1968 until nine days before his death On April 8, 1950, Chester was united in marriage to Dorothy Corbin Miller at Coldwater, Kan. They made their home in the Coy community on the Friend home place. To this union five children were born. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elma Friend. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, three daughters and sons-in-law , Edna (Miller) and Bill Green of Cache, Okla, Elma and Ray Mitchell of Pineville, Mo, and Mary Friend of the home, three sons and three daughters-in-law Willard and Kathy, Alva, Okla, John and Marilyn, Coldwater, and Rex and Rita, Alva, Okla, one sister, Gladys Bowman, and husband Merle, Coldwater, two brothers, Nobel and wife, Nellie, Salida, Colo, Cecil and wife Lorena, Coldwater, and nine grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. He was a kind, loving husband, and father and never complained through his long illness. Her will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
