Read More	DIED--At the residence of her son, Mr. E.G. Stiles in this city at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, August 13, 1893, Mrs. Chloe Stiles. Mother Stiles was born in Fairfield, Vermont, April 23, 1799, and her age at the time of her death was 94 years, 3 months and 20 days. She was married to Rev. Stephen Stiles September 11, 1823. From this union two sons were born, the older of which died at 24 years of age, while the other, Mr. E.G. Stiles remains to mourn her loss. In 1859 she removed with her family from New York to Winnebago county Illinois, where in the same year her husband died, and left her to walk the path of life alone. She came to Fairmont with her son December 13, 1879. Soon after their marriage, she, with her husband, was converted to Christ and united with the Methodist Episcopal church and united with the Troy conference, covering part of the states of New York and Vermont. Thus it will be seen that Mother Stiles was the wife of an itinerant minister for more than twenty-six years, in the days when itinerancy meant a life of hardship and privation. Large circuits were to be looked after with their multitudenous cares. In this work of ministry and love, in the care for the sick and the friendless and the aged, in the benevolent work of the church, in the effort to carry the message of salvation, the early itinerant wife was no less a factor than the pastor himself. Much of the good that has been done in Christ's name could have been done only for the faithful efforts of the itinerant's wife. Into this work Mother Stiles entered with all her heart; ready to go anywhere that God seemed to point the way, earnest and anxious that the will of the Lord should be done in all her life. Her home was the home of the tired itinerant as well as the oppressed of all conditions. Here she relieved their wants and administered comfort in the name of her beloved Master. Thus she lived and thus she died, doing the will of God, triumphing in His grace and leaning upon His loving arm. Her life has left an influence which doubtless eternity alone can measure. Her funeral was held from the residence of her son, Mr. E.G. Stiles, where she has made her home for the last thirty-four years, on Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. A.A. Randall, assisted by Revs. Abernethy and Ashley. A large number of friends paid their tribute of respect to the memory of the departed and extended sympathy to the bereaved friends. May the dear Lord bless them all and fill in their hearts a mother's place till they be reunited beyond. A.A. Randall.
