He immigrated to America on 5/2/1881, arriving in New York, NY on the steamship "Arizona", Guion Line. His employment began immediately in the new country, taking on a job with the Burlington Railroad (B&Q). Soon he was off to the plains of eastern Colorado where the Burlington was building a rail line to Denver.
