G, 1st Regiment Missouri USRC Christian Rohrbach first enlisted in the Missouri Home Guards, Col. Richardson's Regiment, on July 16, 1861, being discharged Sep. 5, 1861. On Oct. 9, 1861 he then reenlisted in Fremont's Regiment, which would soon be disbanded. He mustered in Oct. 31, 1861 at Jefferson City for three years as a Private in Co. B, 26th Regiment, Missouri Volunteers, under the command of Col. George B. Boomer. He was mustered out with Co. G, 1st Regiment Missouri USRC as St. Louis, MO in November, 1864. Christian's regiments served in over 30 battles including Middletown (VA), Island No. 10, Iuka, Corinth, Champion's Hill, Vicksburg, Farmington (MS), New Madrid, and many others. ∼Christian S. was the first Rohrbach to come to Missouri. He was 22, unmarried and came alone to Moniteau County in the spring of 1959. He was the oldest son of "Old" John Rohrbach and had emigrated at the age of 17 with his parents, brothers, and a sister from Switzerland to Ohio in 1854. "Old" John and family would not come to Missouri until 1864. Shortly after the Civil War he added the middle initial S., being known as Christian S. Rohrbach, to distinguish himself from another Christian Rohrbach in the locality. He married Anna Rohrbach on Jan. 25 1866. Later that year the couple settled five miles north of California on a farm that at first consisted of 120 acres. Through the years it was expanded to 220 acres, where he farmed for the remainder of his life. In addition, Christian was active in the Moniteau Cheese Factory, which he helped found, he served on the local school board, and was known as a skilled carpenter. He was a member of the G.A.R. and he and Anna belonged to the German Evangelical Church.
