Read More	Obituary - North Manchester News-Journal, 27 Jan. 1898 Word was received here Monday evening of the death of Christian Shively which occurred at 2 o'clock that day at the home of his son Isaac at Cerro Gordo, Ill. Mr. Shively was one of the best known and highly respected of our early settlers. He was nearly 89 years of age at the time of his death, the greater part of his life having been spent in this community. At one time during his middle lilfe, he was the owner of over 2,000 acres of land in Chester township and paid more taxes than any farmer in the county. For several years past, he had been in poor health, owing to the infirmities of old age and has made his home with his children. Last fall he hurt his foot and gangrene set in finally resulting in blood poisoning, which caused his death. In November he went from this place to Cerro Gordo to remain with the family of his son during the winter. His death, while not a great surprise, is a severe shock. His son, John, of this city left Monday for Cerro Gordo and will bring his father's remains back to this place for burial. They were expected here last evening and the funeral will take place today at 1 o'clock at the German Baptist church in town, of which he was a lifelong member. Burial will take place in the Swank cemetery. Thus has another pioneer and respected citizen gone to his reward.
