Description	:	Christiana Ely Pierce (1839-1923) was the daughter of George Ely (1809-1875) and Sarah J. Scott (1812-1880). Christiana was born in East Finley Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Her ancestor, George Ealy (Ihli) (1774-1830), was born in Germany and landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1754. The elder George was a founder of the Mount Hope United Brethren Church (now Fairmount United Methodist). Over generations the family migrated west. She was one of twelve children. Her siblings were Charles Francis, Henry Sherrick, John, George Washington, William Jefferson, Malintha Ann, Mary Jane, Michael, Sarah Elizabeth, Amzy Rudolphus, and Samuel Lane. Six of the children were born in Waterloo Township, Athens County, Ohio. Christiana met and married Isaac Pierce (1857-1885) October 14, 1858. Isaac was a farmer who joined the Volunteer Calvary during the Civil War. They had three children; Charles Henry (1867-1941), Christopher Columbus (1876-1956) and William C. (1880-1892). Christiana died at the home of her son Christopher in Flushing, Ohio. She is buried in New Marshfield.
