Description	:	Isaac Pierce Isaac Pierce (1837-1885) was the son of John Pierce (1799-1877) and Lydia Moore Pierce (1804-1882). Isaac was born in Athens County, Ohio. He married Christiana Ely (1840-1923) on October 14, 1858 when Isaac was 21 and Christiana was 19. Isaac and Christiana were farmers. Read More	Isaac Pierce Isaac Pierce (1837-1885) was the son of John Pierce (1799-1877) and Lydia Moore Pierce (1804-1882). Isaac was born in Athens County, Ohio. He married Christiana Ely (1840-1923) on October 14, 1858 when Isaac was 21 and Christiana was 19. Isaac and Christiana were farmers. Isaac enlisted in the Civil War (Union) on September 12, 1862 at age 25 where he served in the Seventh Ohio Volunteer Calvary as Waggoner or Teamster. He received an Honorable Discharge on July 4, 1865 at the close of the war. Isaac and Christiana had three sons; Charles Henry Pierce (1868- 1941 ), Christopher Columbus Pierce (1878 – 1954 ), and William Pierce (1880- 1892 ). According to Civil War pension records Isaac contracted dyspepsia and chronic diarrhea about the spring of 1863 at Camp Nelson Kentucky. He was in the hospital at Camp Nelson in Covington, Kentucky and at Camp Dennison in Ohio. Apparently he never fully recovered from his illness. His death records show that he died at age 48 from chronic indigestion. In appearance he was 5'11" with dark hair and eyes. Isaac's wife, Christiana Ely Pierce, was known to be of German descent. Family members recall hearing her speak with a German accent and wearing a bonnet on her head believed to be customary to her religious sect. Upon the death of her husband Isaac, Christiana was unable to support her children for a time until she applied for and received her widow's pension, so Charles and Christopher spent a period of time in an orphanage. Family stories indicate that her youngest son," Willie", died from injuries he received jumping from a train when he was 12 years old. Christiana died January 29, 1923 at the home of her son, Christopher, in Flushing, Ohio.
