Rev. Kenneth Rumppe officiated and Burnham and Wood Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements. Internment was in the West Union cemetery. Casketbearers were Harry Wenger, Lawrence Cannon, Arthur Nesteby, Raymond Mays, Laverne Gibson and Elmer Sorenson. Art Amundson sang with Mrs. G. W. Ukena at the organ. Christina Hoover, daughter of Matthias and Bertha Nelson Thorson, was born in Dover township Oct. 27, 1878, the youngest of seven children. She received her education in rural schools in Fayette county. she was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran church, north of West Union, and had attended Wesleyan Methodist church for the last several years. In August of 1897, she was married to Barge Overhus. The became the parents of five children: John, Midland, Texas; Bartel, Fayette; Ella, Mrs. Ray Reed, Fairfield, and a son and daughter who died in infancy. Mr. Overhus died in January of 1905. In August of 1907, she was married to William Hoover. They became the parents of eight children, Jacob, Elgin; Mrs. Barbara Winter, West Union; Melvina, Mrs. Laverne Gibson, Waterloo; Margaret, Mrs. Raymond Mays, West Union; Irene, Mrs. Arthur Nesteby, Waterloo; Virginia, Mrs. Elmer Sorenson, Ossian; Clara, West Union; and Fern, Mrs. Carl Adolphson, Junction City, Kan. In February of 1953, Mrs. Hoover suffered a stroke, which paralyzed her right side and impaired her speech. She was cared for by her daughter, Clara, since that time. She suffered a second stroke a month previous to her death. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, two children, her parents, one sister, Ellen, Mrs. John Cannon, and four brothers, Thomas, Tollef, Nelse and Henry. Survivors include 11 children, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and one brother, Enoch Thorson, Austin, Minn.
