Reed, 78, a resident of Fairfield for 40 years, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday at her home, 506 North E Street. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Behner Funeral Home. The Rev. Mrs. Reed was a retired nurse who was employed at the Jefferson County Hospital from 1940 to 1963, and at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa from 1963 to 1972. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ottumwa. Ella O. Reed was born March 31, 1905, at West Union. She was the daughter of Barge and Christina Thorson Overhus (sic). Her marriage to Ray F. Reed took place Aug. 14, 1929, in Libertyville. He died Nov. 9, 1962. Survivors include three sons: Roscoe H. Reed and Kenneth B. Reed both of Fairfield; and Robert L. Reed, Montgomery, Ala.; and a grandson. Also surviving are two brothers: Bartell Overhus, Fayett, and Jacob Hoover, Elgin; six sisters, Melvina Gibson, Waterloo; Irene Nestby, Waterloo; Clara Hoover, Oelwein; Virginia Sorenson, Ossain; Margaret Mays, West Union; and Fern Adolphson, Clarinda. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by one brother and a sister.
