Services were conducted by the Reverend L A Westenberger and interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Mrs. Christina G Pfitzer nee Oster was born November 20, 1864, in Hoffnungstal, South Russia. In 1889 she came with her parents to this country and they settled temporarily at Eureka, South Dakota. Sometime later they moved to a homestead, seven miles northeast of Java, where she was united in marriage with Gottlieb Goetz Sr. After the death of Mr. Goetz in 1911, she continued to reside on the old home place with her family until 1919 when she was married Christian Pfitzer of Java, and she came to Java to make her home here. In 1939, Mr. Pfitzer passed away. Although she had been ailing for some time, it was not until about ten days before her death that her condition became serious. She passed away at 7 p.m., March 03, 1943, at the age of 78 years, three months and three days. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, a devoted mother, honored and loved by all who knew her. When her condition became serious, she sensed the approach of death, which she met, unafraid. Death was caused by leakage of the heart and apoplexy. The deceased is survived by six sons, Gottlieb, of Westport, Charley, Christ, and Edward of Java and vicinity, Samuel of Isabel, and Fred of Roseburg, Oregon; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Schlepp, of near Java; 44 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three step-children; Math J Pfitzer, J S Pfitzer and Mrs. Adam Eisenbeisz, all of Java; and two brothers, sam Oster of Java, and Christ Oster of Selfridge, North Dakota. December 24, 2016 Christina married (1) 1886 to Gottlieb Goetz; they arrived in June 15, 1889, at New York City; sailing with her parents on the S S Salle.
