Mr. Oster was found dead about noon Sunday by two of his nephews, J S Pfitzer and Sam Spiry, who investigated after no signs of life had been noted about the place that morning. On entering the house they found him lying across the bed. There was evidence that he had been up and about and apparently fell after suffering a heart attack and then crawled as far as the bed where he expired. The fire in his stove had gone completely out, but it is believed he had been dead for a little over 24 hours. Samuel Oster was born November 22, 1878, and baptized two days later at Hoffnungstal, South Russia. He came to this country with his parents, Carl and Rosina Oster about 1889, the family settling on a farm near Java. On March 28, 1897, he was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Hoffnungstal church, northeast of Java. On December 30, 1900, he was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Kiesz, who passed away February 19, 1933. They never had any children but raised three of her sister's orphaned children, Philip Wahl of Lodi, California, Jacob Oster of Nisland, South Dakota, and Elizabeth (Carl) Wolf of Lodi, all of whom survive. The family had operated a farm near Java, but had lived a retired life in Java for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his four sisters and three brothers, who are as follows: Katharine (Christian) Pfitzer, Christina (Gottlieb) Goetz, Rosina (Philip) Spiry, Magdalena (Frederick) Buechler, Christ Oster, Adam Oster and Johann Oster (the latter was the first husband of Mrs. John J Schanzenbach of Selby. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased and were as follows: Charlie Goetz and Math J Pfitzer, Java; P H Spiry, Selby; Chas Oster, Glenham; Fred F Buechler, Bowdle; and Alex Oster, Selfridge, North Dakota.
