She was 94 years old. She was 94 years old. Christine Emma Chandler was born to Henry and Annie Anz on September 21, 1918, the sixth of 4 boys and 7 girls (one died as an infant) born and raised on a farm close to Clifton, TX. Christine picked cotton, hoed corn, helped cook, clean, and take care of younger siblings. She was baptized and confirmed, as were her brothers and sisters, at Zion Womack Evangelical Church located in the rural German community of Womack, TX. Christine attended Womack Rural School thru the 10th grade and at age 17 left the family home and went to work in Clifton in a private home, without getting to finish high school, due to tough financial times. When she was 18 she moved to Dallas to help her oldest sister with her family. She answered an ad in a Dallas newspaper to work for an elderly couple and when they came to interview her at her sister's house, they hired her on the spot as the sister's house was kept immaculate by Christine. This well-to-do elderly couple lived in a huge house and Christine was their live-in housekeeper who they treated like a daughter. She held other jobs, but when the war started, Christine and three of her sister's worked in a clothing factory that made Army uniforms. It was 1944 and at this time Christine lived with her sister Hildegard and husband Mac, who was recently drafted into the Army. Mac's best friend was Army Sergeant USA Postal employee Ernie Plant from Otis, CO. Mac brought Ernie home for a home-cooked meal. Ernie and Christine met and it was love at first sight, and only three weeks later, he proposed and she accepted. Plans for a March 11th marriage ceremony at a Pastor's house were changed when her father was killed in an automobile accident, and March 11 was his funeral instead. They were married on March 13, 1944, just six weeks before Ernie was ordered to the Aleutian Islands for 17 months. After Ernie was discharged from the Army, the couple moved to Otis, January of 1946 where they lived for 48 years, running The Otis Feed and Seed Store for 36 years, before retirement. To this union were born twin daughters, Linda and Lana on November 8, 1946. The family made many trips to Texas to visit Christine's relatives during the 47 years they were married. During the early part of retirement, they traveled, spent time with children and grandchildren, and enjoyed senior dances. Ernie died February 17, 1992. Christine married Edward Chandler January 1, 1993 in Yuma, CO. During their marriage they traveled and enjoyed family. Ed died April 15, 1997. Christine remained in her home in Yuma and continued to be active with family, church, and community. After complications from a fall, she entered Yuma Life Care Center November 10, 2011 at age 93. She suffered a massive stroke on April 16, 2013, and passed away April 25, 2013. Christine was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Otis, New Hope Lutheran Church in Yuma, and also First Presbyterian Church in Yuma. Her family and friends will remember Christine as a woman of strong faith who gave generously of herself to serve others. She loved to cook and bake and give it all away to family or neighbors. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: husband Ernie Plant; brothers, Hugo, Arnold, and Henry; sisters, Ruth Edna, Marie, Hildegard, Regina, and Mildred; husband Edward Chandler, step-sons Roy and Robert; 14 brothers-in-law, 10 sisters-in-law, and 2 stepdaughters-in-law. She is survived by: twin daughters, Lana Plant, Linda Frank and husband Dave, all of Yuma; three grandchildren, Stephanie Eigner and husband Randy of Yucca Valley, CA; Steve Frank and wife Nicole of Wray; Aaron Mathies of Lubbock, TX; five great grandchildren, Bryant Eigner of Fullerton, CA, Arianna Eigner of Yucca Valley, CA, Malaika Frank, Breelynn Frank, and Pason Frank all of Wray; sister, Josephine Anz King of Dallas, TX; brother, Joseph Anz and wife Mary of West Melbourne, FL; step-daughter, Marge Snedeker and husband Bob of Green Valley, AZ; step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial service were conducted Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Yuma with Pastor Marcia Muir officiating. Inurnment was in the Otis Cemetery. Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
