In 1922, she moved to America with her family, settling on a farm near LaCrosse, Washington. Christine married Joe Emerson in 1934 and was blessed with 66 years of marriage. They lived near Daytona, WA, until retiring from the farm in 1970. Since that time they have lived in Tacoma. Christine quickly became the neighborhood "Grandmother", offering an open door, a fresh home-baked cookie or a bowl of chicken noodle soup. Her young friends would sometimes go home with baked goods for their family or a sewing project she had taught them to make. Others well being and comfort were always foremost in her life. She is survived by her husband, Joe, at their home; four children, Inez (Jack) Hughes of Kennewick, Camille (Iver) Eliason of Tacoma, Vern (Kathy) Emerson of Nampa, ID, and L.J. (Ginger) Emerson of Grandview; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She has been a member of the Lutheran Church of Christ the King since moving to Tacoma and Selbu Lutheran Church in LaCross since 1922. Her long involvement with the church has recently involved weekly quilting sessions and many years of donating her time and talents to many potlucks and coffee times. Her friends and family will fondly remember her excellent baked goods and her giving spirit. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Fir Lane Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, 1710 85th Street East, Tacoma. Visitation will be today 2-5 p.m. and Monday 4-8 p.m. at Dryer Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be given to The Lutheran Church of Christ the King. Arrangements by Dryer Mortuary. Pub Date: 5/28/2000 Buried in the same plot of Joseph and Christine Slind Emerson is their granddaughter, Connie Jo Eliason Miller.
