Description	:	Clair Ann Harland, 70, of Mapleton, ND, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 surrounded by family at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND after a long battle with emphysema. Clairice Ann Altringer was born December 25, 1936 to Aloysius and Grace Altringer of Wimbledon, ND. Read More	Clair Ann Harland, 70, of Mapleton, ND, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 surrounded by family at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND after a long battle with emphysema. Clairice Ann Altringer was born December 25, 1936 to Aloysius and Grace Altringer of Wimbledon, ND. Clair lost her father at a young age so the family moved to Valley City, ND where her mother could secure employment. Clair grew up in Valley City and attended St. Catherine's School. She married Charles Harland on July 6th, 1955 in Nome, ND. They lived between Nome and Valley City for the first 12 years of their marriage, where their five children were born. Clair and Charles moved to Jamestown, ND for 3 years before settling in Mapleton. After moving to Mapleton, Clair worked for Dayton's for a short term before starting employment with Midland Hospital Supply, where she worked until she was forced into early retirement because of her illness. After retirement, Clair was not one who could just sit idle and give up to her illness. She filled her time tending to a large garden and multiple flowerbeds in the warm months and making beautiful quilts for family members and charity groups in the cold months. She also found great pleasure in filling her many cookie jars with fresh cookies weekly and the Christmas-time goodies were truly amazing. Clair was a spirited, strong, and adventurous person, who loved new challenges. She was a generous person who helped many friends and neighbors. Clair did not go without a courageous fight. The morning before she entered the hospital for her final journey, she was sitting at her sewing machine with her latest quilting project and made sure she had watered her tomato plants she started for this season's garden. Her strength was very apparent in her final battle, which lasted for 8 days. Clair is survived by her husband of over 51 years, Charles; two sons, Jeff (Linda) of Summerville, SC and Scott of Missouri Valley, IA; three daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Odegaard of Mapleton, ND, Dawn (Kevin) Gustman of Fargo, and Cherie (Bill) Harland of Wheatland, ND; and one sister, Marge (Ron) Ringuette of Jamestown, ND. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. A brother, Kenneth, and a granddaughter preceded her in death. Memorial Service: Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 2 PM at the West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND.
