Description	:	Clara Anna Backhaus Jensen, daughter of Otto and Annie Liblee Backhaus was born Ocotber 8, 1902 in Morgan Township and was baptized at the Grant Township Church and later confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church in Charter Oak. Clara' mother passed away when she was a very little girl and she lived iwth her sister, Loiuise and husband, John Johannsen. They raised her as their own child. Clara helped on the farm and on February 8, 1922, she married Frank Jensen in Schleswig. They farmed southwest of Schleswig until 1931 when they moved to their own farm northwest of Schleswig.... Clara helped on the farm and on February 8, 1922, she married Frank Jensen in Schleswig. They farmed southwest of Schleswig until 1931 when they moved to their own farm northwest of Schleswig. In 1950, they built a new home and enjoyed retirement. To this union, one son, Burdell was born. Frank and Clara celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1982. Frank passed away three days later. Clara enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking cookies, pies and playing cards with her friends. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Women' Guild and Dorcas Society for many years. Clara is survived by her son,Burdell and his wife, Orpha; three grandchildren, Patricia Stine and her husband, Jon of Sioux City, Janice Schultz and her husband, Curtis of Schleswig and Brent Jensen and his wife, Barbara of Sioux City; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Adela Jensen and Catherine Jensen of Schleswig; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters and six brothers. Funeral services were held at 10:30am, Saturday, November 21, 1998 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig.
