Read More	DEATH COMES TO ESTEEMED AKRON WOMAN SATURDAY Last Rites Held Here Monday Afternoon For Mrs. Clara Port Mrs. Clara Port, an early-day and highly esteemed resident of Akron, passed away Saturday, August 23, 1947, at 1:30 p. m., In Aberdeen, S. D., after having suffered a heart attack on the evening of August 14 at the home of her son, Harold Port, in that city. She attained the age of 73 years and 32 days. Clara Reuter, daughter of Carl and Marie Reuter, was born in Holland on July 22, 1873. At the age of six years she, with her mother, left Holland for America and came to Nokomis, Illinois, where her father and brother, Charles, had arrived earlier to establish a home for the family. It was here that she received her grade school education, as well as her religious education. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Nokomis. The family then came to Akron, Iowa, where the father opened a blacksmith shop. The family united with the Trinity Lutheran church upon their arrival in Akron. In the year 1892 she was united in marriage with Marion Barr, of this city. This union was blessed with five children, Carl, Leona, Bertha, Emil and Marion. She was preceded In death by her husband and the following children: Carl, killed in action overseas in World War I; Leona and Marlon. In the year 1910 she was united in marriage with Sylvester Port, of Akron. This union was blessed with three sons, Raymond, Richard and Harold. Tow of her sons, Raymond and Harold, served in the U. S. Army in World War II. Mr. Port passed away on Christmas Eve in the year 1930. For many years Mrs. Port bravely carried on and reared her family of children. In later years, when her strength began to fail, she was cared for in the home of Mrs. Nettie Hilliker in this city. Last May she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Howard, at Mitchell, S. D., and on August 1 was taken to the home of her son, Harold Port, In Aberdeen, and later to the hospital there, where everything possible was done for her relief, but to no avail. She leaves to mourn her passing the following children: Mrs. Bertha Howard, Mitchell, S. D.; Emil Barr, Sherman. S. D.; Sgt. Raymond Port, U. S. Army; Richard Port, Atlanta, Georgia, and Harold Port, Aberdeen, S. D., (all of whom came for the funeral); also, two brothers, August Reuter, Nokomis, Illinois, and Charles Reuter, Abilene Kansas; two sisters. Mrs. Geo. Eadle, Carrier Mills, Illinois, and Mrs. Bertha Brunner, Harrisburg, Illinois; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, besides a host of friends, especially in Akron vicinity. Mrs. Port was a communicant member of Trinity Lutheran Church and of Trinity Ladies' Aid of Akron. She enjoyed her church, and whenever health permitted, attended the services. She was a member of the local American Legion Auxiliary, being a. Gold Star mother. Memorials were given in her memory to the Trinity Memorial Pipe Organ Fund. She was a kind and devoted wife and mother and a helpful and valued friend and neighbor. The body was brought to Akron and funeral services were held Monday August 25, at 2:00 p. m. from the Rossow Funeral Home and at 2:15 at the Trinity Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. J. A. Pannkuk, the pastor. The Trinity Junior choir sang. Nephews of the deceased acting as pallbearers were: Lloyd Port, Ross Port, Fay Port, Alva Port, Orval Port and Velton Barr. Interment was In Riverside cemetery. Lunch was served the family in the church parlors by the Trinity Aid following the services.
