Clara Belle Rake, daughter of Clara and Asher Rake was born in Bureau County Illinois on August 2, 1865 and died in Creighton, Nebraska on June 8, 1933 at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 6 days. In early life she moved with her parents to Creighton, She was married to Charles H Herrick at Niobrara, Nebraska on July 3, 1885. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Grace Bowers of Los Angeles, California, Laura of Lincoln, Orie of Omaha, and Gerald of Stuart, Nebraska. Following their marriage they settled on their homestead two miles east and two miles north of this city. On September 1, 1901 they moved to Missouri and then returned to Creighton in March 1917, which has since been Mrs. Herrick's home. Mrs. Herrick was a member of the Methodist church for a number of years and to the last was true to her Christ. She was endeared to her numerous friends by her affable and loveable character and had won the respect and admiration of all. Besides the two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Herrick is survived by five grandchildren, two brothers, Samuel of Rapid City S.D. and Elmer of Carlton, Oregon. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. R. B. Hill. A nice company of friends and relatives were present to pay a last fitting tribute to the departed one. The body was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery, beside her husband who preceded her in death on July 15, 1920. The family has the profound sympathy of all in the bereavement.
